5 Flashcards
What makes up the White pulp
Central arteriolar with a periarteriolar lymphoid sheath
Peri follicular zone with a
Germinal centre inside surrounded by B cell corona surrounded by marginal zone
Where does blood flow from the trabecular artery
Central arterioles
Partially through follicle to edge of marginal zone
Shunted to venous sinuses
Some leave vessel bed and end up in trabeculae network of peri follicular zone
What’s the red pulp between the sinuses called
Cords
What are the cords
reticular network filled with immature cells and red blood cells making their way to sinuses
How does the structure of the sinus walls help eliminate old rbcs
Narrow gaps stiff or old cells can’t fit through
Removed by macrophages
In the sinus what are the two functions of a macrophage
Kill/clean up dead or old cells
Recycle the iron
How do mz B cells help bridge the immunological gap
Can differentiate into plamsbasts without T cell activation within hours
What are the two routes of blood in the spleen
90% directly into venous sinus from capillaries
10% through open ended sheathed capillaries into peri follicular zone and then to red pulp
