4a Instrument Landing System Flashcards
This provides information and guidance for aircraft landing even in adverse weather
Instrument landing system ILS
The ILS consists of three elements (systems) What are they?
Tone localizer, glide slope, marker beacon
The tone localizer uses ____ & ____ deviation from runway
Left and right
The tone localizer uses what frequency
108.10–111.95 MHz (ODD 1/10th MHz)
The tone localizer uses what type of comparison
Amplitude comparison (the principle)
Glide slope uses what UHF frequency
329.15–335 MHz
This is paired with LOC channels and provides up/down deviation
Glide slope
There are three marker beacons outer, middle, inner.
The outer beacon does what?
Has a blue light, is activated 4 to 7 miles from the runway, and has a tone of 400 Hz (dashes)
The middle beacon is utilized 3500 feet from EOR, uses amber light and has what tone
1300 Hz (dashes)
The inner beacon uses a white light, 1000 feet from EOR, and uses what tone
3500 Hz . . . . (Dots)
The marker beacon transmits on what frequency
75 MHz
There are three ILS components what are they
Control panel, receiver, antennas
Where are the marker beacon antennas found
Flush mounted on bottom of the aircraft
VOR/LOC share what
An antenna
Glide slope and marker Beacon have separate what?
Antennas
