What are checks and balances? Why were they created?
Things one branch can control from another branch, or limit their power to.
To ensure one branch does not become too powerful.
What checks and balances does the Legislative branch have on the Executive branch?
Impeach President, can override a veto, Senate can refuse to ratify treaties, Senate can refuse to confirm presidential appointments, and congress controls the spending of money.
What checks and balances does the Legislative branch have on the Judicial branch?
Can impeach and remove federal judges, can refuse to confirm judicial appointments, and establishes lower federal courts.
What checks and balances does the Executive branch have on the Legislative branch?
Can suggest laws to Congress, and can veto a law.
What checks and balances does the Executive branch have on the Judicial branch?
Appoint Federal judges and can grant a reduction in a sentence to jail or pardon you from a federal crime.
What checks and balances does the Judicial branch have on the Legislative branch?
Declare a law unconstitutional.
What checks and balances does the Judicial branch have on the Executive branch?
Can declare executive acts unconstitutional.
