Why did the Constitution separate the powers into 3 branches? What are the branches?
The people didn’t want one person/branch to have all of the power, thus become abusive.
Legislative, Executive, and Judicial.
What powers does the Legislative branch have?
MOST POWERFUL BRANCH!!
Create laws.
CONGRESS~ 2 houses: Senate- 100 people total(2 from each state), serve for 6 years at a time, can go up for reelection as many times as they want
House of Representatives- 435 people total (determined by population in each state), serve for 2 years, unlimited terms, every 10 years recount the population in each state.
Congress can vote to send troops to go to war.
What powers does the Executive branch have?
Enforce laws.
President~ 4 year terms, can only be president twice
Can send troops to go to war.
What powers does the Judicial branch have?
Punish law breakers.
Interpret laws.
Supreme Court~ judges,when you are on, you are on for life, but you can resign.
