4.6 vessels of systemic circulation Flashcards
in the aorta what is MAP
mean between systolic and diastolic pressures
what happens to MAP in the periphery?
will decrease
what is the relationship between pulse wave velocity and size of the vessel?
the smaller the artery the faster the velocity there is also a second hump
what causes the second hump of pulse wave in the periphery?
there is reflection at the resistive elements which adds local pressure in the periphery
what happens to flow velocity as you go out from the aorta?
It will decrease due to the decrease in elasticity
what is the relationship between volume and pressure?
volume is delayed as volume still ejected after systolic pressure
- the more delayed the more elastic the vessel
- If equal = inelastic
where is compliance greater - arteries of veins?
Venous system - large volume changes possible with small pressure change
how does flow relate to inspiration?
biggest flow during inspiration, smallest at end of inspiration
what causes pressure changes with age?
aortic compliance changes
