4.5.6.1-3 FoDR (Analogue signals and Digital data) Flashcards
1
Q
What is meant by digital data
A
A discrete format for representing analogue signals, that always takes a value to a specified range and precision
2
Q
What is meant by analogue signals
A
Natural sound waves that occur in a continuous form
3
Q
What are ACDs and DACs
A
ACDs - Analogue to Digital converters
DACs - Digital to Analogue converters
4
Q
What do ADCs work with
A
- Used with analogue sensors which detect analogue signals
5
Q
How does sampling work
A
- ADC takes samples of analogue signals at regular intervals
- The amplitude of the samples are measured to an integer value
- Samples are quantised - made digital, and are assigned a binary value
6
Q
What are the most common use for a DACs
A
Converting digital audio data into analogue signals
7
Q
What is always lost from A-D-A conversion
A
Quality is lost because no sample is ever perfect
