Q
Where does the blood carry hormones?
A
- target organs
- they produce an effect
4
Q
What are the differences between nervous control and hormonal control?
A
- type of signal: electrical (n), chemical (h)
- transmission of signal: neurones (n), bloodstream (h)
- effectors: muscles or glands (n), target cells in tissues (h)
- type of response: muscle contraction or secretion (n), chemical change (h)
- speed of response: very rapid (n), slower (h)
- duration of response: short (n), long (h)
5
Q
What is the ‘master gland’?
A
- pituitary gland
- secretes several hormones into blood in response to body conditions
- hormones can act on other glands to stimulate release of other hormones and bring about effects
6
Q
Where is the pituitary gland and what does it produce?
A
- brain
- produces many hormones which results on other hormones releasing
7
Q
