- GSA: pain, temperature from ipsilateral head and neck (continues as principal sensory nucleus in pons)
where is the dorsal nucleus of vagus (X) and what does it do?
- lateral rostral open part of medulla
- GVE): parasympathetic to heart, lungs, most of GI tract
Where is the nucleus ambigus (IX, X, XI) and what does it do?
- lateral rostral open part of medulla
- SVE: stylopharyngeus (IX), pahryngeal constrictors + muscles of soft palate + larynx (X) + soft palate muscles (XI)
Where is the nucleus solitarius (VII, IX, X) and what does it do?
- lateral rostral open part of medulla
- SVA (VII, IX, X): tastes fibers from the tongue
- GVA (IX, X): baroreceptors, chemoreceptors

- SSA: equilibrium (at pontomedullary junction)

- superior colliculi
- extraocular muscles (except superior oblique and lateral rectus), levator palpabrae superioris (upper eyelids)
