Q

How bad will sea level get?

A

If it went up by around 25M it would destroy most of the Maldives and Bangladesh and not much else.
By a bit more and the UK and other coastal countries will start to lose a lot of land to the sea.

Q

Climate change to erosion?

A

It will mean that structures will change and coastlines will change drastically as well.

Q

Groynes and sea walls?

A

Groynes will stop LSD from taking place and the sea wall will stop sea levels flooding onto the land.

Q

Hard engineering?

A

The large amounts of man-made materials such as concrete. They aim to stop natural processes such as LSD, erosion. They typically involve large scale construction and disruptions.

Q

Soft engineering.

A

Uses nature to work with the engineering, they try to use natural and non-harming materials. It does not have a lot of construction and it needs some maintenance.

Q

What are the different ways to protect the coastline?

A

Offensive- you go forward getting more land.
Defences- blocks the erosion taking place on the coastline eg sea walls.
Strategic realignment- protect some places and let others erode.

Q

Why does the UK use ITCM strategy?

A

Not enough money to do all of the coast and need to protect the most important areas of land eg tourism, industry and more.

Q

How will storms affect us?

A

Storms will be getting more unpredictable and will become more dangerous as climate change carries on.

Q

Why is agriculture the lowest income?

A

It is due to cattle being a low income job which means that it is not important land to protect

Q

Things about attacking the coast.

A

Advantages: you will get more land from this, not the most expensive thing to maintain.
Disadvantages: the land will not get higher meaning one massive storm could destroy it.

Q

Things about strategic realignment.

A

Advantages: protect the coast with not using all your money, the high income areas will be saved.
Disadvantage: some places will not be able to be saved from erosion and it will be where there is low income (agriculture nature reserves).
