4.4 Human Activity Flashcards
What has development done to the coast?
Development has meant that the beach is less attractive and means that less tourist come, but they can get more resources and money out the coast with the development.
What has agriculture done to the coastline?
The agriculture has indirectly meant that the coast will not be protected from erosion due to it being not worth as much a development or industry.
What has industry done to the coast?
Industry is major due to it being cheaper on the coast, indirectly meaning that more development will be there, indirectly protecting the coast.
What has coastal management meant for the coast?
It has meant that some parts have become protected by the government while indirectly destroying other places such as spits who need deposition.
Swanage bay.
Due to the people protecting Swanage bay, it has meant that longshore drift does not occur anymore, meaning a few miles a way the coast does not have enough sediment to stop erosion naturally.
What is happening due to humans stopping erosion in some places?
The other places unprotected will get more erosion and they will lose the deposition they were getting for years before.
Impacts of the coastline to houses.
House prices will drop a lot due to it eroding away and possibly destroying the house.
What is dredging?
Dredging is where you take the resources from the sea bed next to the coastline.
