4.2 Physical/human processes Flashcards
Igneous rocks?
Basalt
Granite
Weathering in the uplands
Freeze-thaw weathering where the water gets stuck in the cracks and then can expand when it melts and creates even bigger cracks
Weathering in the lowlands
Biological and chemical due to them being more abundant in the lowlands
Two ways that humans have effected the uplands
1) have let sheep roam around the areas such as the lake district and that has stopped forests being made and we have made villages that need water so we have installed irrigation pipes that stop the river changing.
Misfit rivers
Where glaciers have eroded away a valley that had a river and has left a U shaped valley river with a tiny river in the middle.
Dry valleys
Where water goes through the ground due to it being permeable and the glaciers go through the land filling the cracks with ice stopping the permeable ground and making a river that erodes away the top until the ice melts and it is left with what looks like a river eroded away the land but there is no river in sight.
Dry valley locations
Found in the lowland areas due to the rocks such as chalk being permeable.
Misfit location
Upland areas due to there being glaciers there and not glacier melt water.
Humans and lowland areas
We have create problems such as pollution and water and power consumption. damages the environment through the use of fertilisers, pesticides and weed killers, and may spread disease to animals and humans.
Which has been effected he most upland and lowland?
Uplands due to it having a lot more disadvantages due to humans.
Glacier melt water
It affects the lowlands more due to the glaciers being uplands.
Glaciers
Tend to be on the upland areas due to it being colder in the upland areas
Biological weathering
Where trees go into cracks and when they grow they make them even bigger and then make the cracks bigger
Chemical weathering
When the rain and other chemical things erode away cracks and other things
