44.3 kidney filtration Flashcards
how does filtration work
1- blood pressure forces fluid from the blood in the glomerulus into the bowman’s capsule
2- the capillaries and specialized cells in the capsule are permeable to small solutes and water
3- the large molecules and plasma proteins are left
the filtrate’s path
1-the proximal tubule 2-the loop of henle 3-distal tubule 4-collecting duct 5-renal pelvis 6-drained by the ureter
only mammals and some birds have the
loop of henle
human nephrons
85% cortical nephrons (in the cortex)
15% juxtameullary nephrons (goes into the medulla)
what allows humans to produce hyper osmotic urine ti body fluids (important for water conseration)
the juxtamedullary nephrons
each nephron is supplied by blood from
an afferent arteriole
goes of the renal artery
the capillaries converge as they leave the glomerulus forming an
efferent arteriole
branches of this vessel form the
peritubular capillaries
a 3rd set of capillaries extend downward and form the
vasa recta
