How does development have an effect on coastal landscapes?

A

Office development and housing is a massive thing on the coast as in central cities it is very expensive and is cheaper somewhere else, like Brighton. This makes the coastline very important for businesses and everyday living.

A

Sea levels are rising and increase coastal erosion leading to the loss of farmland and effect the fishing industry and this is due to climate change

How does industry have an effect on coastal landscapes

A

Tourism is a massive industry and tourism is lost by erosion of the beaches. The Thames estuary is important for shipping and power stations to supply to london. Also the North sea gas is piped onshore meaning less tourism

A

Groynes stop sediment from being moved. Hard Engineering is used a lot to stop sediment from being moved taking away our beaches

How the interaction of physical and human processes is causing change on one named coastal landscapes

A

In swanage there is a headland and bay and there is 25% development in the area. The protection in the area are Groynes, sea walls the world heritage site and the national trust. Swanage is used dredging sea, tourism, fossil-jurassic coastline, ports, businesses and residential. There is a lot of coastal erosion and mass movement in swanage bays and headlands.
