Q

sarahs’s law

A

Sarah’s law was first introduced due to the abduction of an 8 year old girl sarah by roy whitling a paedophile in 2000. the aim of this campaign was to require the police to make public information about known sex offenders in the area bringing awareness which is what the parents of sarah, michael and sara did and the campaign was backed up for a change in law by the news of the world paper.

however as the news of the world backed up this campaign for a change in law 50 photos of sex offenders were published leading to the occurence of attacks meaning were campaign was set back and the government refused to agree the demands of the campaign.

overall this campaign was extraudinarily successful as it got brought to be known as the child sex offender scheme and the from of protection grew throughout the 2008 pilot scheme where police forces took part in aim to protect children and has said to of protected 60.

Q

what is stephen lawrence

A

Stephen Lawrence was a black teenager who lived in south east London and was killed in a racist attack by white men on the 22nd April 1993. in 1994 the stephen lawrence campaign was founded which aimed to fundraise and cover the cost of a private prosecution of the suspects. furthermore footage was gathered in 1994 providing enough evidence for the police investigation which showed the suspects playing with knives while making some seriously disturbing rascial statements.

however as 30 years have gone on and some changes and progress have been made there is still a heavy percentage of the met who remain rasicst making it seem no matter how serious a case is a numerous number of individuals were continue to discriminate.

overall i belive stephen lawrences campaign was successful in rasing awareness about rascial injustice and pushing for justice leading to changes in laws and police procedures to address rascism.

Q

road safety campaign bradford telegraph

A

this road safety campaign urge drivers to take more care and cut the high numbers of injuries and deaths on our roads. they aimed to raise awareness and promote safe behaviour on roads focussing on encouraging responsible driving and educatuing the public about the importance of road safety.

however they may not effectively reach with all individuals as some might ignore or dismiss the message it’s aiming to get across. furthermore changing deep ingrained behaviours and attitudes related to road safety can be challenging.

overall the road safety campaign has been a success at playing a crucial role in educating the public and reducing the number of accidents on the road.

Q

what is ann mings campaign ?

A

Ann mings never was able to get rest util she got justice for her daughter julie hogg who was murdered in 1989 in middlesborpugh by billy dunlop stuffing her body behind a bath panel in her mums house. billy was then put on trial for murder but the jury failed to reach the verdict and even within the second year no verdict was reached and he was cleared. it was later old by billy that he was protected by the dpuble jeopardy law prevented you from a second prosecution of the same offence. ann aimed to overturn the double jeopardy law so those who already committed a crime won’t be able to get let off.

overall i believe this campaign was very successful as her aim of the duble jeopardy law being abolished becmae reality ruling out not being tried twice for the same crime.

Q

what is bobby turnbull campaign ?

A

on new years day bobby lost his mother, sister and aunt in duram by his aunts partner michael atherton by shootings. michael owned 6 legal weapons and had a history of domestic violence so as this crime was committed he then shot himself after killing his family. bobby started this campaign and aimed to change the laws and sought to have a gun hotline for people to report concerns.

however there’s a worry that emotions might drive the campaigns more than the real solutions meaning it might not fix the root causes of crime and campaigns might only focus on one problem but forget about other big issues that need fixing too.

overall i believe bobbies campaign was successful as his campaign gained 20,000 signatures and amendments were made to the firearms act of 1968 prenting anyone receiving a suspended sentence of 3 months from possessing a fire arm.

what is clares law ?

A

clares law was named after clare wood who was murdered by her ex boyfriend george appleton in 2009. during this investigation of the murder the family found appleton had a history of violence against woman. the purpose and aim of this campaign was to give information regaridng a partenr of ex partner whether they have a history of violence so that abusivesness won’t attend.

however clares law wasnt able to provide a timely and risk sensitive frontline response to woman who fear violence from a intimate partner.

overall i believe clares law is successful as it campaigned for a change in legislation where you can request information from the police fi yuo beleive your partner your partner is danger towards you and the police are designated to disclose a persons history of abusive behaviour to those of risk. it got passed in england and wles in 2014 and has been trialed in soyth wales, austraila and canada.

Q

what is the british lung foundation camapign ?

A

the briths lung foundation was formed in june 1985 by professeur sir malcolm green and his colleages. the reaosn why this started was because the research into lungs was underfunded and underappreicated and the overall lung diseases were poorly understood. the aim of this campaign was to prevent lung disease by raising awareness and the dangers attached so you can have a minimal risk of getting it and your lungs will be looked after.

however till this day there is still a high number of people who take no interest in caring and taking knowledge of your health, for example there’s a high number of people who continuously vape and smoke cigarettes not realising the impact it’s doing to their body.

overall i beleive it’s been successful as over the last 40 years more than £100m has been invested into research funding and awarded more than 1000 research grants into lung conditions.

Q

what is howard league for penal reform (ur boss campaign)

A

this campaign was established to enhance it’s legal services for children and younger people in the penal system and camapigned to change the national and local policy and practise in the statutory and voluntary sectors working with children and young people. the aim was to change the publics attitudes to children and younger people in the penal system and come up with new ideas.

this campaign is very successful as it’s heavily reduced the criminlaisation of children, for exmaple the number of child arrests were reduced by 71% between 2010 and 2018. this therefore means thousands of children will have a brighter future without their life chances being blighted by unnecessary police contact and criminal records.
