Protection Against Stalking
A campaign to introduce a new law making stalking a specific offence
Attitude of the justice system
They lacked a clear policy and let the officers decide how to investigate. Victims weren’t taken seriously
The campaign
They set up an independent inquiry, persuading MPs and peers from all party’s to serve it. They heard evidence from victim’s and the harm that stalking causes.
The success of the campaign
The inquiry was published in February 2012 with support of 60 MPs. This became the Protection of Freedoms Act in April 2012 which made stalking a criminal offence
Reasons for success
Voices of victim’s to be heard, gained support from a wide range of important organisations and the campaign was kept in the public eye

A pressure group that focuses on state related deaths such as people in police custody, prisons, immigration detention centres and psychiatric care.
