Ownership by recipient country
Countries receiving the aid must have ownership of the program, which means that they must be involved in deciding the type of aid that will best fit their needs.

- Considers relevant sociocultural + political factors in the planning process.
- Implemented in a socioculturally sensitive way.
Partnership + collaboration
Participation + collaboration of all stakeholders = differing strengths of govs, orgs, etc, to be used to implement effective programs that make efficient use of resources available + avoid duplication.
- Resources used effectively.
Focused on results/results focused
Programs should be focused of addressing patterns of disease + illness within a country or community and should continue to have a positive impact in the future (sustainable).
Transparency + accountability
All necessary information is available to those involved in developing + implementing programs.
- Ensures funding is used for what is intended.
- Aid is achieving what it is meant to.
- Info is published + openly available.
