First you prepare the organic solvent using distillation or heat under reflux

Then for the separation steps:
clamp the separating funnel and pour the solution into the separation funnel

Then you allow it to runoff the aqueous layer

Then add water or another solvent

Invert and swirl it then open top to release built up pressure

allow the layers to separate and open the tap and allow the dense layer to flow out

add more solvent/water and repeat

then add an anhydrous drying agent and decant it
then filter and remove the drying agent

then redistill the organic solvent at the boiling point of product
