What are the two different types of organisational structures?
Hierarchial structures
Flat structures
What are the features of a hierarchal structure?
Many layers
Long chain of command
Each manager has a narrow span of control
What are the features of a flat structure?
Few layers
Short chain of command
Managers have a wide span of control
What is the process of delaying in a business?
Process where a business removes management layers to reduce costs and increase efficiency
What is a centralised structure?
Where the business decisions are made at the head office and then distrubuted down the chain of command
What is a decentralised management structure?
Where a business allows decisions to be made further down the chain of command
What does insufficient communication mean?
Poor and Not enough of communication
What is excessive communication?
Too much communication which overwhelms an employee
What does a full time employee refer to?
An employee working more than 35 hours a week
How does the ‘flexible hours’ way of working, work?
Employees are given a set number of hours in a week/month
They get to choose when they want to work
How does the ‘zero-hours’ way of working, work?
They are given work when the business need them
What is a permanent contract?
Where there is no fixed end date so the employee may stay within the business until they want to leavw
What is a temporary contract?
Where there is a specific start and end date for an employee to work
What is a freelance contract?
Where a self employed invdividual carrys out a peice of work for a set period of time.
E.g. making a table for someone
What are two ways technology has impacted a business on the way they operate?
Increased efficiency
