4.1 Flashcards
What separates the uplands and lowlands
The Tee ex line
What sort of rocks are in the uplands
Mainly metamorphic, with large amounts of igneous up north, and sediemntary near the bottom (bottom of the uplands)
What sort of rocks are in the lowlands
Almost all sedimentary, with little amounts of the other 2
What has formed the limestone by the coast
Crushed shells of the corals which once was there 300 million years ago.
What formed the solid rock by the coast as well
Skeletons of the tropical fish and corals once there, which have been crushed, the water squeezed out of them, and the calcium carbonate, which crystallised around them.
What tectonic processes affected the pennies.
- The plate the Uk was on shifted, away from the tropical area.
- Convection currents below uplifted rocks from below the sea to become land
- During the uplift, many rocks snapped or caused earthquakes.
When was the last ice age
10,000 years ago
What effects did the glaciers have on the land
They carved The Valleys, and made misfit streams with the rocks which were dragged alongside the bottom.

Where is Chalk found and it’s economic uses
Chalk is only in the lowlands. The London area. Small doses of chalk can be used as an anti acid. Chalks flint has been crucial for human tooling.
Where is Carboniferous Limestone found and it’s economic uses
Limestone is mainly in the uplands, with small parts in the lowlands. Edinborugh, Scotland-England border. Limestone is a good building material in the old ages.
Where is Clay found and it’s economic uses
Mainly in the lowlands, Clay is in the upper lowlands. Clay is good for pottery, decorating, construction and more.
Where is Granite found and it’s economic uses
In the Aberdeen area, up north in Scotland and the Lake District. Granite is a popular building material, for monuments, table tops, floor tiles etc.
