4 Wheel Drive Systems Flashcards
Customer calls, says there is 5 “ snow, what do you do? (RAV4 AWD)
Don’t turn TRAC off. Leave on AWD. Center differential lock only engaged with no pavement showing. If you lock it, not going to be good.
When you turn TRAC off on 2WD RAV4, what happens?
Auto LSD turns on
Have a 4WD 4Runner, driving while snow is happening. Do what while encountering snow? If patchy with pavement, should you engage 4WD?
Ask what trim level 4Runner it is first so you can give them the right information.
If it’s mostly snow on thehighway, turn on 4WD High. If in town and mostly patches of snow in the city, might turn off TRAC because it turns on auto LSD (maximizes traction left to right. If one wheel starts to slip, SR5 4Runner, adjust for you.)
Any truck, Rav4, or Highlander, when you turn off TRAC? Turns on what?
Auto LSD
If it snows with Sequoia, what should you do?
Sequoia has full time 4WD, can drive on payment. Has a selectable 2-wheel drive also to save gas. Recommend on snow they drive full time 4WD on sequoia only, switch to 4H, doesn’t matter if on pavement or not.
What’s the difference between LSD and TRAC?
Traction control responds by reducing throttle. Auto LSD does not reduce throttle but brakes the slipping wheel to redirect power to the drive wheel with more traction.
