4. SURVIVAL GUIDELINES Flashcards
SURVIVAL GUIDELINES
are a set of basic rules meant to support the resourcefulness of the survivors after an emergency landing in a deserted area, with the purpose of preserving life until the arrival of the Search and Rescue teams
SAR
Search and Rescue teams
in most parts of the world survivors will be rescued within 48 hours after being located.
Water
The average adult body contains approximately 50 litres of water. If it loses 25% of that figure (12.5 litres), death will occur. After losing about 5 litres, one becomes comatose.
Blood
The average person has about 5.7 litres of blood and the loss of 2.3 litres will result in death. To survive, one must keep the body within the above limits.
Temperature
Normally 36.9 ̊C, but can fluctuate between 34.4 ̊C and 41.1 ̊C. If it sinks or rises beyond these temperatures, death occurs.
Chemical imbalances
The balance of chemicals within the body must be maintained. A severe lack of certain chemicals or too high levels in the body can cause damage to one’s health.
