4. Sampling Plans Flashcards
4 types of sampling plan
Intuitive
Statistical
Hybrid
Protocol sampling
2 types of plans
Surveillance/exploratory
monitoring/assessment
btw local and area control site
A local control site is adjacent t the sampling site
Area control site is in the same area as the sampling site but not adjacent to it
2 types of samples
except duplicate and split samples
Grab sample
Composite samples
Grab samples (discrete and integrated)
specific time and location (spatial, temporal)
cons: scrarifies data resolution, less sample collected
Pro: Flexibility in sampling location and little equipment
Composite samples
is the combination of individual samples
useful for pollutants that layer out over time,
a lower cost
Cons: less information available
number and type of sample
of sample need to be calculated
sampling approach
random
judgmental or
systematic
Random
largest # of sample but smallest bias
Judgemental
small number of samples but largest bias.
require prior knowledge of the site
systematic
lager # of samples, but has smaller bias for judgemental
