4- Network Infrastructure Flashcards
Network Infrastructure
the collection of devices and cabling that facilitates network communications among an organization’s systems, as well as between the organization’s systems and those belonging to other organizations.
Enterprise Architecture
It includes the overall set of infrastructures that facilitate access to applications and information and the ongoing activity carried out by one or more persons such as Enterprise Network Architect, Enterprise data Achitect, Enterprise System Engineer, or Enterprise Security Architect.
Goals of enterprise architecture:
- Scalability: Design networks and storage so they can easily be expanded when needed.
- Agility: Design should be flexible to meet new goals and objectives.
- Transparency: High level and detailed diagrams be readily available. No secret
- Consistency: Employ identicals architectures in all location to facilitate troubleshooting.
- Repeatability: Consistency brings repeatability
- Efficiency: Repeatability and consistency yield efficiency.
- Resilience: to make infrastructure available in the event of failure of individual components or in case of maintenance.
Network Architectures
The complete framework of an organization’s computer network, including network communications
Network Architecture includes :
- Physical network architecture: Physical locations of network equipment and media.
- Logical network architecture: include several layers, network protocols, traffic routing, security zones, and the utilization of carrier services.
- Data flow architecture: RElated to application and data architecture.
- Network standards and services; More involved with the services that are used on the network.
Classification type of Network
- PAN : Several feet up to 3 meters
- Lan : Hundreds of feet, up to 100 meters
- CAN : A few mile
- MAN Dozen of miles
- WAN Hundred to thousand of miles
Personal area network (PAN)
- Used by a single individual, connect peripherals and communication devices for use by the individual
- Reach ranges up to 3 meters
Local Area Network (LAN)
- Connect computers and devices together in a small building or a residence.
- Reach ranges up to 100 meters.
Campus area network (CAN)
- interconnect LANs of an organization that has buildings in close proximity.
- Reach range up to a few miles.
Metropolitan area Network (MAN)
- A network that spans a city or regional area
* Reach ranges up to dozens of miles
Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Network’s size ranges from regional to international
* Reach ranges from hundred to thousand miles
What is the maximum lenght for an Eternet cable
• 100 meters; the same as the maximum size of a LAN.
Network Based Service
Protocols and utilities that facilitate system-and network-based resource utilization.
Email servers
Collect, store, and transmit e-mail messages from person to person.
Remote access
permits an authorized user to remotely access network-based services from anywhere on the internet via an encrypted tunnel that logically connects the user to the enterprise network as though they were physically there. This is done through VPN
