Reinforcement affect model
a social learning approach where interactions followed by positive feelings tend to be repeated
Consensual validation
finding people with shared opinions is validating because it provides evidence that my opinions are correct, sticking with similar attitudes to maintain balance
Evolutionary theory
predicts that both men and women should look for partners who are good for child bearing, women (between puberty and old age), men (between puberty and old age

correlational

Factors determining attraction
attitude similarity (beliefs, values, interests),
similarity, dissimilarity effect (positive response to those who are similar, negative response to those who are different),
proportion of similarity (greater similarity, greater attraction)
Matching hypothesis
we tend to have partners who are similar in social status (i.e, attractiveness), even though we might prefer to have more attractive ones
Sternberg’s triangular model of love
passion, intimacy, decision/commitment (strong and balanced = consummate love)
Unrequited love
one person feels love and the other does not
