Q

How do the hyper vigilance and inhibition schemas relate to basic needs?

A

They result from unmet need for childhood ‘spontaneity’ and ‘playfulness’. People with these schemas avoid the experience as well as expression of spontaneous emotions and needs. I emotional inhibition they may devalue inner experiences such as emotions, fun, seeing as immature and unnecessary. Taught to feel ashamed of expression emotions? Punitiveness and unrelenting standards inhibit, as does negativity and pessimism. Don’t permit satisfaction, always disappointment!
