Phenylephrine dilution steps
- 10mg phenylephrine
- 10mL saline
- inject 0.1mL phenylephrine into saline
1mL = 100 mcg phenylephrine
“double dilution”
- 1mL phenylephrine into 9mL saline
(1000mcg/mL) - 1 mL of 1000mcg/mL into 9mL saline
(100mcg/mL)
bolus ephedrine when
low BP
low high HR
make ephedrine syringe
- get 50 mg ephedrine vial
- draw 4 mL saline
- draw 1 mL ephedrine
(50mg/5mL)
10mg/mL ephedrine in 5 mL syringe
make phenylephrine drip
10mg into 250mL = 40mcg/mL
double strength phenylephrine drip
20mg into 250mL = 80mcg/mL
quad strength phenylephrine drip
40mg into 250mL = 160mcg/mL
