4/21/15 Flashcards
Where are phototropins found?
in the plasma and chloroplast membranes
What is the phototropin induced response to blue light?
Bending towards the light
What is an auxin?
a class of plant hormones that regulate many growth responses including cell elongation
How do the plants actually bend towards light?
phototropins induce the reorientation of auxin transporters causing unequal distribution….dark side cells elongate more than light-side cells
What happens to chloroplasts exposed to blue light?
they are reoriented; active phototropins induce changes in the cytoskeleton fromactin fibers “pushing” chloroplasts to new locations and hold them in place
How does the stomata open (order of operations)??
Blue light–>active phototropins—>signaling cascade—->phosphorylation/active of H+ pump—->k+ enters cell—-> water enters cell
Gibberellin hormone responses in plants
germination, growth to maturity, flowering, fruit development
Auxin hormone responses in plants
growth to maturity, flowering, fruit development
Cytokinins hormone responses in plants
growth to maturity; flowering; fruit development
ethylene hormone responses in plants
flowering, fruit development, ascission
ABA hormone responses in plants
Ascission, seed dormancy
what is a hormone?
signaling made by cells that modulate processes in other distant cells
