4 Flashcards
what is the process of mitosis
Interphase - the cell is always in his stage DNA copies itself ready for mitosis
Prophase-DNA condenses so it becomes more visible. Membrane around the nucleus disappears.
Metaphase- Chromosomes and their copies line up into the middle of the cell.
Anaphase- the chromosomes and their copies are pulled to different parts of the cell.
Telophase- The new membrane is formed around the chromosomes so new cells can be formed.
Cytokinesis- The cell membrane pinches and divides into identical daughter cells.
what are meristems
pat of the plant where growth occurs regions of unspecific cells capable of cell division- found in tips of routes.
what are stem cells
Unspecialised cells. In animals they can continuously go under cell division and become specialised.
- one type is embryonic stem cells.
- tissue stem cells found in adults can be used to replace and repair cells. For example, brain, bone marrow, eyes, blood skin muscle.
