4/11: Alternative Matrices; Intro to Alternative Resin Restorative Options; Finishing and polishing composites reviews Flashcards
What are examples of sectional matrixs?
- Original palodent system
- Palodent plus system
What is the original palodent system?
Three different choices of concave-convex bands , to
be held in place by one of the ring clamps
When is palodent most useful?
with small composite preparations like this one than with amalgam
- Select a band of the appropriate size, and slip it between the teeth far enough apically to close the gingival margin
When should the ring be placed in OG palodent?
AFTER the palodent band
Where is the concave area face in OG palodent?
The box
What does clamping the palodent cause?
slight separation of the teeth, and assist in getting a better contact on the restoration
What is a big drawback of original palodent?
DOESN’T ALLOW WEDGING
What do all sectional matrices require?
A rubber dam for safety, in case a ring breaks or flies off
What is the palodent plus system?
Another SECTIONAL MATRIX system, Palodent Plus
has four choices of band and two choices of ring
clamp
What does the palodent plus system provide a set of?
pinned pliers that engage holes in the band, for use in manipulating the band, both at placement time and when removing it
When is a wedge placed in palodent plus?
Before the ring clamp is seated
Note the triangular notches in the plastic tines of the ring, and how they fit down over the wedge in place
Describe the automatrix system installation
Describe the automatrix system removal after amalgam placement
What are limitations to the automatrix system?
- Must be held in place by your non- dominant hand when there are no undercuts on the side walls of the tooth (as when tooth has been prepared for a
crown). - Doesn’t work well when tooth defects go far apically
What is resin infiltration (ICON) treatment for?
Initial (incipient) caries
