why is there conflict over natural resources
Disputes between India and Pakistan over the sovereignty of Kashmir caused lots of military death and displacement. Both countries need the Indus river for irrigation and hydroelectric power
what did the world bank do in Kashmir
mediated with the Indus water treaty which gave India the three eastern rivers and Pakistan the three western ones. However Pakistan was getting more water so India was angry (unresolved conflict)
how do seasons affect the conflict in Kashmir
India has control over the upstream river so controls Pakistan’s water as well. In the summer Pakistan uses the water for farming but this is when India stores the water for hydroelectric power so Pakistan goes into drought. In the winter the reservoirs fill up and flood Pakistan. The demand for water is higher now due to the growing population and the source of water is depleting due to global warming

aims to achieve peace and security and develop good relations between countries. Operates its policies as a global partnership and helps to giver intervention legitimacy and global reach. UN can intervene in a country without permission if a violation of human rights is happening

safeguard the freedom and security of members through political and military means, promotes democratic values and encourages cooperation but if diplomatic measure are ineffective it has the military capacity to undertake crisis management operations

believes international trade between countries would enhance economic dependence, and provides forces from member states for a rapid response to conflict. Has the European Neighbourhood Policy which aims to co-operate with close neighbour states in eastern Europe to promote stability and security

UN peacekeepers, NATO soldiers and aid workers attempt to intervene and provide assistance in conflict zones

santions, EU trading block (long term), investment in rebuilding, donations, cost of preventing conflict

flows of intelligence like wanted people, coordination strategies and intelligence make governance effective. Leaders meet to make agreements like the anti-personnel treaty which stopped stockpiling and protection of anti-personnel mines as they killed lots of civilians.

satellite imagery, drones, and surveillance. The international database supplies information increased by social media. Mobile phones are helpful for transnational networking and monitoring behavior
