What is ADHD

A
  • What is it? Symptoms of ADHD; inattention, hyper-activity/impulsivity.
  • ^^Doesn’t listen well, attention issues and poor organisation qualities (fidgets, always moving).• Academic issues stem from lack of focus, not a lack of intelligence. Also interpersonal issues due to symptoms.

How to recognise/diagnose

A
  • 3 types of ADHD listed; for an ADHD diagnosis, a person must display 6 listed symptoms for inattention and.or 6 for hyperactivity/impulsivity.
  • Person must experience these for over 6months and it has to occur in 2 different places.

Belief on what it is in the brain

A

• No definite cause of ADHD; current research leaning towards the brain. Seems to be a COGNITIVE disorder with BIOLOGICAL bases and has BEHAVURAL consequences.
