3.7 Summarize cloud and virtualization concepts Flashcards
cloud bursting
Moving the execution of an application to the cloud on an as-needed basis
hypervisor
Software that allows virtual machines to exist. The machine running the hypervisor is known as a host, while the instances of virtual machines are known as guests
hypervisor type 1
Pertains to hardware- the hypervisor software IS the OS
hypervisor type 2
pertains to software - The hypervisor runs within your OS (Windows or MacOS)
VM Escape
where you escape your VM to access another VM on the server. (on test they will mention the attacker paying for the least secure VM) Allows an attacked to access the hypervisor the VM is running on
SAAS
Software as a Service - Software that you pay for on a monthly/annual basis. Office 360, Adobe, etc
PAAS
Platform as a service - (operating system)
The consumer does not manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, or storage, but has control over the deployed applications and possible configuration settings for the application-hosting environment.
IAAS
Infrastructure as a service - hardware as a service.
Private cloud
Cloud infrastructure that only our employees can access
Public cloud
Cloud infrastructure that anyone in the world can access
Hybrid cloud
Cloud infrastructure with segments that are public and some that are private.
Community Cloud
Cloud where we share the cost of the Infrastructure
VDE is
essentially, the generic term for desktop virtualization.
VDI is
a form of VDE that enables fully personalized desktops for each user and the benefits that come with centralized management

A. Type 1
B. Type 2
C. Infrastructure as a Service
D. Platform as a Service
