Methyldopa additional SE: hypersensitivity reactions, hepatitis, myocarditis, positive Coombs, drug-induced fever, drug-induced lupus erythematosus (DILE), can increase prolactin levels. Rebound hypertension if stopped abruptly, must taper. Pregnancy (B/C)

Once the blood pools peripherally (which causes headache and flushing), the heart starts to pump faster (tachycardia) to push the blood back into the circulation. This is more common with the shorter-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, but is occasionally seen with longer-acting formulations.
