3.6 DC Circuits Flashcards
What does ohms law describe?
The relationship between current and voltage for most conductors
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms
What is the equation for voltage?
Current x resistance
When understanding ohms law what must be a fixed value?
Temperature
What must be used with Kirchhoff first and second law?
A circuit loop (beginning and ending at a power supply)
What is Kirchhoff 1st law?
At any junction in a circuit the sum of currents flowing towards that point is equal to the sum of current flowing away from it
What is Kirchhoff first law used for?
To calculate unknown currents at a branching point in an electrical circuit
What is Kirchhoff 2nd law?
The algebraic sum of all voltages around any in a closed loop is zero
In a parallel connection what is the place called where they meet?
A node
What does a power source provide?
An EMF
What happens to a batteries internal resistance as a battery discharges?
It becomes greater
What is the equation for internal resistance?
Difference between open-circuit voltage and the closed-circuit voltage, divided by the load current
What limits the maximum current that can be drawn from a power supply?
It’s internal resistance
