Q

How does charge separation generate electricity?

A

In the semiconductor the atoms are joined by covalent bonds and when the light strikes it an electron is set free leaving a hole. Once the electron is used round a circuit it comes back to fill the hole

Q

How does thermal energy stored in a material get transferred directly to electrical energy?

A

When you heat two different metals the electrons move at different speed causing one to be positive and one to be negative
