Q

Natural selection

A
  • variation in a population due to random mutation in genes producing new alleles
  • selection pressure due to competition with source like food , mate, water
  • advantageous alleles will pass on as they survive (survive of the fittest)
  • survival species reproduce and pass on advantage alleles so the frequency of the advantageous alleles increased in the population
  • so the species is better adapted to the environment

Q

two type of variation and their graph and example

A

continuous
normal distribution
height/ weight/ finger length
controlled by a lot of gene and environment

discountinuous

Q

3 types of selection with example and description

A

Directional (extreme) - antibiotic resistant
Stablizing (moderate- keep average the same) - baby size
disruptive (both extreme) - color of oyster shell black and white not grey, help survive in and deep or shallow area- hide)
