- Acknowledge notification over the radio, monitor the event, and ensure a CIT officer is en route.
- Respond to the scene and assume command and control of tactics (see LVMPD 3.110, Use of Force, “De-escalation”):
a. Events involving persons threatening suicide under volatile circumstances (individual is holding a weapon or threatening to jump).
b. Persons who are experiencing symptoms of behavioral emergency and/or medical emergency.
c. Any event where circumstances indicate the situation may become volatile.
- Ensure SWAT/Crisis Negotiators are requested when required (see LVMPD 3.300, Supervisors Tactic for Armed Subject Response [STAR] De-Escalation Protocol, LVMPD 3.505, Barricaded Subject Plan, and LVMPD 3.510, Hostage Plan).
It is the policy of this department that a subject who appears to be under the influence of drugs, disoriented, agitated or aggressive, or in an altered mental state will be considered a behavioral emergency. This behavior can increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest.
