3.4 The water cycle Flashcards
Clouds
Very small, floating water droplets or specs of ice
convectional rainfall (stijgingsregen)
rain that forms when it is very hot and a lot of water evaporates and rises
frontal rainfall (frontale regen)
rain formed when warm and cold air meet. Warm air is forced to rise after which it condenses.
glacier (gletsjers)
large bodies of ice in mountains that form as a result of an accumulation of snow.
leeward side (lijzijde)
side of the mountain where almost no rain falls.
long water cycle (lange waterkringloop)
The process in which seawater evaporates and flows back to the sea via clouds, precipitation, grounwater and rivers
relief rainfall (stuwingsregen)
rain that forms when air is blown against a mountain and is forced to rise.
short water cycle (korte waterkringloop)
The process in which seawater evaporates and falls back into the sea via clouds and precipitation.
water vapour (waterdamp)
invisible gas that forms when water evaporates
windward side (Joefzijde)
side of the mountain that receives a lot of rain.
