Q

describe ‘the types of behavioural indicators (stereotypy, misdirected behaviour, failure in sexual or parenting behaviour, and altered levels of activity’

A

Stereotypy
- repetitive behaviours
- may be natural but out of context
- e.g. cats pairing in zoos

Misdirected Behaviour
- a natural behaviour that is directed against something other than it would naturally
- e.g. misdirected predation
- e.g. cannibalism in chickens

Failure in Sexual or Parenting Behaviour
- natural patterns of sexual behaviour do not happen
- normal parenting behaviours do not occur (resulting in a lack of care)
- e.g. parents reject newborns (leading to offspring not thriving/surviving or offspring exhibiting abnormal behaviours)

Altered Levels of Activity
- very low levels of activity (apathy)
- very high levels of activity (hysteria)
- e.g. excessive sleepiness
