Describe the process of using a separating funnel.

A

Add a solvent that dissolves the impurities but not the desired product.
Shake a few times and remove the stopper to release pressure.
Remove the lower waste layer.
Repeat the process a few times.
Pour the desired product into a beaker.
Add anhydrous calcium chloride to dry the product.
The product may now be filtered or distilled again to further purify and confirm purity by testing the boiling point.
