Define Bluetooth.
A short range wireless technology which allows devices to connect together.
Define 3G.
Third generation wireless technology used to allow mobile phones to access the internet or other Internet Protocol networks. Also, data can be uploaded and downloaded using this technology.
Define Wi-Fi.
Wireless Fidelity - medium range wireless technology used to allow devices to connect together.
What is WAP?
Wireless Application Protocol - used to access network services and information using mobile phones.
What is a mobile phone?
A communication tool that can be carried around easily.
How do mobile phones transmit data?
Radio frequency.
What is SMS?
Short Message Service - the text message facility associated with a mobile phone.
How does SMS work?
A text message goes to a central message centre and it is forwarded as soon as a transmission space is available.
How can email be sent by SMS?
A gateway converts the SMS to email format and the provider will forward the email to the recipient.
Describe what roaming is.
The process of sending and receiving data and telephone calls from a mobile phone whilst in another country or anywhere in the world.
Define voicemail.
A feature enabling callers to leave a message if the owner of the telephone is not available or on another call.
What is a smartphone?
A device which combines internet services and mobile phone functions.
