3.2.5 Flashcards
three social debates
- climate change
- renewable energy
- water management
debate (definition)
conservation or discussion about a topic or issue ; in which has two opposing times
social debate (definition)
a point of view which may include conservations or arguments expressed through different media, and can involve anyone who wants to be.
climate change (definition)
refers to the level of carbon dioxide in the earths atmosphere, that has been rising steadily since the industrial revolution, caused by burning of fossil fuels. all this carbon being released has caused our climate temperatures to increase and continue to increase unless change is to happen over the next years.
two debates on climate change
- people who believe its real / caused by humans
- others don’t believe or think its naturally occurring
opinions by…
- climate sceptics
- climate scientists
- media perspectives
climate sceptics
believe earths atmosphere has warmed and cooled naturally over thousands of years and what is now occurring is natural change and that humans cannot do anything to change the climate and carbon is good as it assists in greening the planet.
climate scientists
believe that if we fail to reduce carbon pollution caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, climate change will have profound impact son our planet.
the media ( perspectives )
this debate has been distorted by media reports that suggest a relatively even split in scientific opinion about human influence on climate change.
what to do …
adapting includes changing the way we live so we can acclimatise to the effects on our environment.
lesson intensity, cleaner fuels and greener behaviour have some economic and social impacts of change that may be seen as outweighing threats posed.
influence on relationships ..
can influence the way outdoor environments are perceived by the way we interact and the impact we have. if people believe humans are the reason for climate change then they’re more likely to adopt more environmentally friendly practices such as using solar energy etc.
but if people don’t believe humans are influencing climate change then they will not adopt sustainable practices.
