What is biological variation and how does it affect the survival of an individual?

A

Biological variation arises randomly and can either be beneficial to, damaging to, or have no impact on the survival of an individual. It can benefit the gene pool enhancing chances of survival as favorable genes go to next gen. Passing of diseases through genes to next gen is damaging, though. Neutral has no effect on survival.
