  • clinical presentation and raised inflammatory markers
  • CT can confirm diagnosis
  • US can exclude ovarian / gyne problem

4 key differential in appendicitis?

A
  • ectopic pregnancy: do serum or urin bHCG
  • ovarian cysts (especially if they torsion)
  • Meckels diverticulum (2% of population asymptomatic, can bleed, inflame, volvulus, intussusception)
  • mesenteric adenitis (usually younger children post tonsillitis or URTI)
