What is urbanisation
Urbanisation is the growth in the proportion of a country’s population living in urban areas.
What percentage of the population in developed countries live in urban areas and why?
79% of the population live in urban areas because their populations moved to cities much earlier when their country developed. Eg. Industrial revolution 18th and 19th centuries
What proportion of developing countries live in urban areas?
35%
How are the rates of urbanisation in countries expected to continue into the future?
Developed Countries - The rate of urbanisation growth is very small because most of the population already live in urban areas and people want to move out of cities when they retire.
Developing countries - This is where the growth will be the most as investment is now coming to their cities so people move for jobs.
Emerging countries - the rate will be high but not as large as developing countries

Emerging countries have been urbanising the most and will continue this trend.
Developing countries have been urbanising at a fast rate but slightly slower than emerging, their rates will increase
