intensive farming vs free range farming

Q

behavioural indicators of poor animal welfare

A

stereotypy - repetitive behaviours, may be natural but of context. E.g cats pacing in zoos, rocking in mammals, chewing without food present.

misdirected behaviour - a natural behaviour that is directed against another animal. Examples include misdirected predation or misdirected sexual behaviour. E.g cannibalism in chickens.

failure in sexual behaviour - natural pattern in sexual behaviour either in terms of partner, timing or action does not happen.

failure in parenting behaviour - especially in mammals, where abnormal parenting behaviour and lack of care occur. This can lead to offspring not thriving or dying.

altered levels of activity - from lack of activity ti increased activity e.g very low (apathy) or very high (hysteria).
