3.1 Flashcards
What is most essential in mapping the network?
Documentation, both physical and logical.
How is logical network map used for?
By using a specialized software(Visio,Gliffy.com), It gives us a high level view of network(WAN layout), and its useful for planning and collaboration.
How is physical network map used for?
Some physical network maps will show the physical layout of the rack that’s in the data center.
What is change management?
Since any change in the network(firewall configuration, software upgrade, modify switches) is risky, it need to go through some steps before starting the change and must follow specific policies.
What is managing the cables useful for?
By using the ANSI/TIA/EIA 606, we can present info(reports, drawings, work orders) which helps with Pathway, space, grounding by using labeling and Identifiers.
How are cables identified and labeled?
By identifiers, labels, color coding, bar coding
How do we label systems?
By using asset tag, system name, serial number and has to be clearly visible.
How do we label circuit?
We need to find out which WAN circuit is having a problem(Demarc, CSU/DSU, Router) since it’s not always the circuit with the problem and label each one with:
a) WAN provider Circuit ID
b) WAN provider phone number
c) Internal reference name
How do label the patch panel?
They are mostly labeled with numbers on each side of the link.
Whats a baseline?
It helps us compare whats happening now with what happened in the past (for response time, network throughput, etc) which is useful for planning.
What is inventory management?
It’s a record of every asset(routers, switches, cables, fiber modules, CSU/DSU, etc) which helps with financial records, audits and depreciation. We have to tag the assets.
