3.1 Flashcards
What is a Niche?
Biotic and abiotic resource that a species uses.
Realized niche vs. Fundamental niche
Fundamental niche is the area of space that a spieces could use live, eat, and reproduce
Realized niche is the area of space that a spieces could use live, eat, and reproduce including interaction with other species.
Mutualism
Both speices benefit.
Commensalism
One spieces benefit while the other spieces do not benefit or harmed.
Parasitism
One spieces benfit at the expences of the other.
Predation
Prey of one animal to another.
Herbivory
Consumption of plant material by animals.
Facultative vs. obligatory
Facultative recieve benefits from but can survive without.
Obligatory is species that depend on each other.
What is likely to happen if the niches of two species overlap a little? Overlap a lot?
A little the species will fight for it and eventually aviod that area.
A lot with cause one species to go.
How can niche partitioning increase the biodiversity of a community? What are some ways that species can partition their niches?
It allows species to acess the limit resourse.
Food and area of the enviroment.
Compare and contrast different interspecies interactions, give examples of each type
