Explain what a over centre clutch does
An over centre clutch is intended to transmit power typically used on stationary applications such as pumps or generators. It is not practical for gear shifting, therefore making it typically for stationary applications
List the components on the over centre clutch
6 of them
-flywheel
-drive ring (adapter plate)
-clutch disc (driving plate)
-pressure plate assembly
-linkages for engagement and disengagement
- output shaft
Explain what the flywheel does
A flywheel or pilot bearing are often used in the crankshaft to centre the front end of the over centre clutch output shaft
Explain the drive ring (adapter plate)
The over centre clutches need a drive ring which is used to centre and drive the clutch disc
It fastens to the outside of the flywheel, flywheel and drive ring will always rotate at same speed because of this
Explain the clutch disc (driving plates)
These disc are fastened to the drive ring and the drive ring is fastened to the flywheel which means the flywheel, drive ring, and the clutch disc move at the same speed the whole time
Explain pressure plate assembly
-These are used when more surface area is required
-the section closest to the flywheel is composed of a back pressure plate and central hub assembly.
-The section closest to the output shaft is a floating style of pressure plate
What components make up the driven assembly and what components make up the drive assembly?
Drive members
-flywheel
-drive ring
-clutch disc
Driven members
-pressure plates
-central hub
-intermediate plates
-output shaft
