William later regretted this decision, as he saw Robert as spoiled and foolish. By 1077, Robert was impatient to rule Normandy by himself
What sparked the revolt of Robert?
William Rufus and Henry deciding to empty a chamber-pot over his head. This developed into a large fight which further angered Robert cause his father didn’t punish the others

What happened the day after the spark of the revolt?
Robert and his followers (a large number of young knights) attempted to seize the Rouen Castle. This siege was a failure, and William ordered their arrest.

William besieged him, and lost; he was injured and had to retreat. This was humiliating.
